दस्तावेज़ ऑब्जेक्ट एक XML दस्तावेज़ ट्री की जड़ है, और हमें दस्तावेज़ के डेटा तक प्राथमिक पहुँच प्रदान करता है।
चूंकि तत्व नोड्स, टेक्स्ट नोड्स, टिप्पणियां, प्रसंस्करण निर्देश इत्यादि दस्तावेज़ के बाहर मौजूद नहीं हो सकते हैं, दस्तावेज़ ऑब्जेक्ट में इन ऑब्जेक्ट्स को बनाने के तरीके भी शामिल हैं। नोड ऑब्जेक्ट्स में एक स्वामी दस्तावेज़ संपत्ति होती है जो उन्हें उस दस्तावेज़ से जोड़ती है जहां वे बनाए गए थे।
